Understanding EPA 608 and 609 Certifications

What Is EPA 608?

EPA 608 certification is required for working on systems containing refrigerants. There are four types:

  • Type I: Small appliances
  • Type II: High-pressure systems
  • Type III: Low-pressure systems
  • Universal: Covers all categories

What Is EPA 609?

EPA 609 applies to motor vehicle air conditioning systems and covers refrigerant handling for those applications.
